  17. Brief Introduction: Shunyasamapadane is not a single work. It is the name given to a succession of variant texts edited by different persons each codifying the previous ones in its own way. This is a dramatised version of the Vachanas of the Shivasharanas of the twlfth century. The main intent of the editors seems to be a contextualisation of the vachanas in the frame work of events that might have taken place during the life time of the vachanakaras. Obviously this leads to a process involving the selection and combination of vachanas. Allamaprabhu becomes the nucleeus of the text and he gives a philosophical dimension to the text. This mode of structuring the vachanas succeeds in fitting them in to a religious frame work. Shunyasampadane is divided in to a number of chapters, each focussing on an event in the lives vachanakaras. Akkamahadevi, Muktayakka, Siddarama, Ajaganna and many others share the lime light for a while and add a dimension of their own to the philosophicsl corpus of the text. Shunyasamapadanes have evoked a pattern of mixed response. The process of dramatisation has lent a particular charm to the selected vachanas and the element of contnuity helps the process of interpretation. Most of the editors belong to the South Karnataka where as the movement florished in the northern regions. However it must be admitted that Shunyasampadane is one of the foundational text in the Kannada literary traditon.
